Wood chips (mulch) is organic material applied to the soil for protection or improvement of the area covered. Mulching is nature’s idea. Nature produces mulch all the time with fallen leaves, needles, twigs, pieces of bark, spent flower blossoms, fallen fruit and other organic material.
At Kauai Tree Care we create high quality, organic mulch from various locations using our industrial wood chipper. You can use this high-quality mulch to conserve soil moisture, moderate soil temperature and suppress weed growth. The decay of freshly produced chips from recently living woody plants, consumes nitrate; this is often off set with a light application of a high-nitrate fertilizer. Wood chips are most often used under trees and shrubs.
Mulch serves initially to warm the soil by helping it retain heat. This allows early seeding and and encourages faster plant growth. It stabilizes temperature and moisture, and prevents sunlight from supporting germinated weed seed. Consider adding mulch around trees and flower beds to help them grow stronger and healthier.

Compost
Compost is made from wood chips that have been decomposed in a process called composting. This process recycles various organic materials otherwise regarded as waste products and produces a soil conditioner (the compost).
Compost is rich in nutrients. It is used, for example, in gardens, landscaping, horticulture, urban agriculture and organic farming.
